JoCasta Zamarripa

"My community involvement is vast and diverse.  I am a product of the 12^th District, born and raised here.  I have worked with youth in my district as a CLC bilingual tutor....and "I have worked the older white constituency, which have been in the district for generations at SOC (Southside Organizing Committee).  I have consistently worked with the predominant Latino immigrant population in my district via my volunteer work with my family's church, Holy Trinity Guadalupe, my extensive work in 2004 working to get out the Latino vote on the Kerry-Edwards campaign, and also during my work with SOC, where we also facilitated all-Spanish and bilingual English/Spanish meetings for the growing Spanish-speaking constituency.

"I am also comfortable moving among the young professionals and the LGBT community in the more affluent part of my district, in Walker's Point.  I know that I can bridge that divide that seems to separate this prosperous area and the rest of the district, which struggles with issues such as poverty, gangs, and slum landlords."
