2004 Spring Endorsements

City of Milwaukee - Common Council

3rd District - Michael D'Amato
Ald. D'Amato is an undisputed champion of LGBT civil rights on the citys Common Council. He was the lead sponsor of the citys Domestic Partner Registry and was a supporter of the labor contract between the city and AFSCME District Council 48, which was the first city labor contract to offer domestic partner health benefits to city employees. Most recently, he used the power of his office to urge the state Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections and Privacy to vote against the constitutional amendment on the definition of marriage.

4th District - Robert Bauman
Mr. Bauman explicitly stated that he would "demonstrate a commitment to diversity and tolerance through public pronouncements, legislative actions and private dialogue with management and city departments." The LGBT community needs allies, especially in government, who will publicly speak and act on the communitys behalf.

6th District - Marlene Johnson-Odom
Ald. Johnson-Odom is an incumbent whose voting record has demonstrated support for Milwaukees LGBT community.

7th District - Fred Gordon
Ald. Gordon is an incumbent whose voting record has demonstrated support for Milwaukees LGBT community.

14th District -
Dual Endorsement of Lori Lutzka and Tony Zielinski
Both candidates demonstrated support of LGBT causes and organizations when they served as supervisors on the Milwaukee County Board and both state they are willing to continue such support as a Common Council member.
