2004 Spring Endorsements
Milwaukee County - Board of Supervisors
1st District - James G. White
3rd District - Gerry Broderick
Since taking office in 2002, Supervisor Broderick has
made a point of developing positive relationships with the community leaders in his district including members of the LGBT
community. Broderick stood defiantly against the county executive when the county executive vetoed AIDS prevention funding
from the 2003 county budget, an atypical move for an official who was newly elected amidst the reform movement. He is a human
rights advocate and the HRL-PAC views him as a leader on the county board, who will champion causes of interest to the LGBT
community.
4th District - Marina Dimitrijevic
Ms. Dimitrijevic demonstrates ambition, passion and
progressive values in her race for county supervisor. She supports domestic partner provisions for county employees in same-sex
relationships. In addition, she would support the nomination of qualified openly LGBT individuals to county committees and
commissions. She would work to make Milwaukee County a "new standard for equality."
5th District - Lee Holloway
6th District - Jim McGuigan
Mr. McGuigan is a longtime supporter of the LGBT community.
He supports extending domestic partner benefits to all county employees and their partners through a contract with the countys
labor unions. In addition, he would support the nomination of qualified openly LGBT individuals to county committees and commissions.
He believes that fairness is achieved through honest debate and is more than willing to work with the LGBT community on any
issue of interest.
10th District - Elizabeth Coggs-Jones
Supervisor Coggs-Jones is a longtime supporter
of the LGBT community, who is open to discussing ways to make the sheriffs department a friendlier environment for LGBT officers.
In addition, she supports domestic partner provisions for county employees in same-sex relationships. She has a record of
support in allocating county funds for LGBT services, such as AIDS prevention, and she states she will continue to be an advocate
for LGBT issues.
12th District - Peggy West
Ms.West has many qualities that are desirable in a candidate.
She is ambitious, passionate about politics, and progressive. She supports domestic partner provisions for county employees
in same-sex relationships. In addition, she would support the nomination of qualified openly LGBT individuals to county committees
and commissions. Ms. West represents a new generation of candidates who grew up around openly LGBT family members and friends
and who personally views sexual orientation as a non-issue, but understands that society at-large is not so advanced. HRL-PAC
believes Ms. West will be a strong advocate for the LGBT community.
13th District - Willie Johnson, Jr.
15th District - Lynne DeBruin
Ms. DeBruin has been a longtime supporter of the LGBT community
in her leadership in working with ARCW in getting county support of its funding requests. She supports domestic partner provisions
for county employees in same-sex relationships. She also would support the nomination of qualified openly LGBT individuals
to county committees and commissions. Ms. DeBruin states she is willing to discuss or work on issues of interest to the LGBT
community.
18th District - Roger Quindel
Supervisor Quindel has supported the allocation of county
funds for LGBT services, such as AIDS education. In addition, he supports domestic partner provisions for county employees
in same-sex relationships and would support the nomination of qualified openly LGBT individuals to county committees and commissions.
